I am going to be fostering a wee shih tzu puppy called Princess Jasmine for the two weeks I am on holiday and I am really excited (though Josh isn't quite so lol!)

She is very cute and cuddly - and as soon as I get a chance I will post a photo of her Very Happy

How lovely Lesley - enjoy! I have Monty's son coming to stay with us for a spell while his owners are having lots of building work done on their house. Monty loves playing with Toby so I'm sure they'll be having lots of fun!

yes Michele Josh is in a major sulk too!! lol! and as for little miss jazzypants being very quiet and not like a normal puppy... she has learned very quickly how to attack my wrists, hands and feet and enjoys making me squeak! She also barked full in the face of Josh which did not please him in the least and she thinks she can jump up and land on the sofa! (and then gets very mad when she can't quite reach - oh and trying to climb my tray didn't work either bouncy lol)

She is quite catarhhy though but she is teething so I think that is the problem there cos she has eaten well and played hard and now thank the lord she is sleeping so I am off to get some rest tooxxxx

Poor Princess Jasmine is poorly at the moment. She has a colitis which is making her really miserable. One of her lumps (swollen lymph nodes where a double inguinal hernia op has been done by some BUTCHER!!) is also coming to a head - the other one burst last week and out popped a whole and rather large suture!! She just doesn't know where to get for comfort and I am worried out of my mind - especially since Josh and I have grown to love her so much that she is likely going to stay with me!!

Poor Princess Jasmine, I hope she starts to feel better soon. She must be in such pain the poor little mite. Can you possibly make her a doggy wheatie bag so she can snuggle into it for a bit of warmth to ease the pain?

Why is it that some vets can to do an amazing job of an operation, with tonnes of care for the animal, but others just seem to hack at a dog, like it was a piece of meat? One of the vets in our practise gets so involved when a pet is really ill, and I have seen him close to tears when someone comes in with a pet that has either died naturally, or had to be put to sleep. Dad was saying to him how much Simba meant to my Mum, and he welled up saying he couldn't survive without his dogs in his life, and totally understood why Mum and Dad were worried. He even has a counsellor he puts owners in touch with when they are distraught on losing a pet.

Princess Jasmine is in the best place possible being with you Lesley, she will get the best care going, and be spoiled rotten I am sure. Why is it that these little bundles of fur manage to get right inside our hearts so quickly and easily? I thought you might end up having a new fur baby once she managed to wheedle her way into your heart. lol!

Thanks girls teddy hug and great idea Sue, Jan from the rescue had just suggested the same thing to me and Jas did snuggle up on it for a bit and I used a bit of lavender oil on her tummy too though she didn't want me to touch it. The vets where the rescue go are absolutely lovely and if ever my vet moves away or retires then I know where to go with the lad too. It seems there is quite a bit of colitis in the area and the doggies are all presenting with terrible tummy pains so guess that is what is going on... but when you know what has already come out of the little mite's wound it does make you panic a bit. She obviously has pain because she is breathing very fast and is lying so awkwardly.
Oh and to top it all while I was at the vet this afternoon, the cage I had ordered arrived and despite my desperate letter left on my ddor they refused to leave it with a neighbour! And I have arranged to go collect it tomorrow (otherwise it would be next Friday before I could be home again for redelivery) and just discovered I have arranged the time at exactly the same time as the emergency vet clinic.... and the courier has said that if you don't collect your parcel at the time you say then they will send it back to where it came from!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!

How is she this morning Lesley? A bit better I hope. She sounds like she is suffering horrible pain poor little mite. If it had been me, I would have been sat up with her all night, trying to comfort her! It's so hard because they can't tell you what is wrong, and you can't explain to them.

There is quite a lot of colitis about, the vet said that hopefully Simba will grow out of it as he grows up. I did some investigating, and am tempted to try some powder on his food to balance the unfriendly bacteria in his gut, because I hate him having to keep having antibiotics and injections when he gets an attack. It can't be doing him any good having chemicals pumped into his system.

What the heck is wrong with the courier? If your neighbour has agreed to take it in for you, why can't they just take it to them? Now it means hassle for you going to collect it. And to specify a time you have to collect it, when there was a perfectly simple solution available is blooming ridiculous and stupid in my opinion.

Let us know how she is getting on. Give her a gentle cuddle from me teddy hug teddy hug teddy hug

Hi Sue
Jasmine still not really very well and is pacing the floor again. She had a relatively comofrotable night and I expected her to be much better today but she isn't Sad I have come back from the courier to find she has managed to tip her water everywhere and is now soaked through and very wobbly (not sure about that) though she has eaten some cooked chicken. I am at my wits' end now and thinking of contacting the emergency vet number she has now squashed betweent he toy box and the wall and got down behind the tv corner unit in her effort to get into a dark place so I better go and rescue her.

Do you mena probiotics? Or something else??

Just sent you a pm, but not sure if it is getting through, my computer is driving me insane doing weird things at the minute!

I would be straight in contact with the vet if I were you, for your own peace of mind as much as anything else. They may take her in and put her on a drip to keep her fluids up. You are doing everything you can for her, and fingers crossed she will be bouncing off the walls tomorrow!

Yes, we are thinking of a probiotic powder for Simba, to balance the bad bacteria in his gut. He still gets bouts of colitis, but not as badly as when he was tiny. What do you think of the idea?

Gentle little hugs for Jas and a big one for you. I know just how you are feeling. teddy hug teddy hug teddy hug

Thanks Michaela and Gez too for your kind words xxx
and just sent you a pm Sue - it did get through and thanks a lot. Didn't call the vet yet as she seemed to be more comfy and although not right she is moving a little faster and easier but will keep my eye on her very closely. Not quite the weekend I was planning as I seem unable to do anything else other than sit watchingher!!

And I think the probiotic is a brilliant idea - I had already bought some for Jas and was thinking of giving some to Josh too. It certainly won't do any harm and is one of the constituents of prokolin. Also you can get prokolin from www.hyperdrug.com as well as probiotics and also kaovet (which is the kaolin and pectin component of prokolin and might work out a bit cheaper in the long run to have in) xxxxx
