Puppy weights

Ok...questions about puppy sizes. Now, I readily admit that I totally forget how tiny Peerie was when I got her, but I was sure when I got Bramble this weekend that she was smaller.

Well...yesterday I took her to the vet for a check up and her first jab and I was proven right! She 'tipped the scales' at the rather paltry 1.2kg! (if my maths is right that's a bit under 3lb?) She's 11 weeks old, and I'm sure Peerie was at least 2kg at the same weight!

Am I right in thinking that Bramble is REALLY totty?

Now, Peerie turned out bigger than her breeders expected (she actually confortable sits in the breed standard size-wise, which they didn't expect!) but... how small do you think Bramble will be? Obviously I don't really care what size she ends up, I'm just curious!

She does seem small at the moment but she may supprise you and come on in leaps and bounds now she is in her permanent home with individual attention. I has a little one in this litter, he went this morning weighing in at just under 4lb at 10 weeks. He will, I am sure realy start putting weight on now he is going to be one of 2 instead of one of 9. You never can tell realy how big she will end up although I wouldn't expect her to be at the top end of the scale I am sure she will gain weight steadily and healthily and thats what matters not her eventual size. enjoy her....Pat

You don't say how old she is Nyssa but she does seem a little small to me too (my puppies were about 7-8 ounces born ) . Having said that in my second litter I had 5 7-8 ounce puppies and one that weighed in at 4 and a half and when he went tohis new home he was smaller than the others but growing like mad and by the time the week was over he had caught the others up.

Like Pat says now she is home with you she will no doubt start to fill out and as long as she is gaining weight consistently and is in good health she will be fine (and personally I quite like them towards the lower end of the scale - there is something quite special about the tiddlers as long as they are not over small - I am not referring to teacup or whatever here just the 10/12 pounders )

Sorry Lesley, thought I'd said she was 11 weeks yesterday!

I'm not worried about her size, the vet was very happy with her health and, as you said, as long as she does grow it's fine. I was just curious about how she might end up! Ahh well, that's all part of the mystery isn't it!

Yes but I am not teaching children - though it seems like it at times like today - but adults and if they are all getting on with their exercises I end up twiddling my thumbs (usually for about two seconds before I get called upon to sort out thier computing yet again )

Hi Nyssa

I have the litter brother to Pats boy as Pat bred the litter, at 10 weeks he is 6lbs 4ozs
which is a nice weight, he is about the same size Tammy was at the same age,

Some smaller ones do come on when they go to there new home, also some dogs like Ziggy and Tammy are heavier boned so weigh in a little more

I am sure she will soon pick up with you, do we have any pics yet if so can we please see her
