Housebreaking.. arrggghh!!

Wow great news, well done Boo, could do with boo teach lucy for me.
i took lucy for a walk last night and while she was walking on the lead she suddenly stopped and did a wee(first time shes ever done that) i told her "good girl" and we were only 2mins from home, then once indoors i could not beleive what she did stright infront of me as well, she weed right in front of me as if it was normal, i think she expected me to say good girl again,i think it is all confusing for her, i`m unsure what to do next, we have pads all over and she will not even go on them.

You are taking her outside and staying with her until she performs and then praising aren't you? Housebreaking has to be a quite rigorous training really you can't leave it to chance and they don't necesarily learn from the older dogs either. It can be maddening but she is still a baby and one day the penny will drop and she will ralise what mummy wants her to do.

Dont think I can give any more or any better advice than Lesley has given, but just thought i`d mention how we got Harvey to go outside.
He was already 5 months old when we got him and had spent those first 5 months basically peeing in his surroundings. Anyway the first two weeks he pee`d on every section of the carpet. We tried the puppy pads but he showed no interest at all. We did try the softly softly approach, which was as soon as we saw him wee on the carpet we would just pick him up and take him outside, but no he still didn`t catch on. Then one night I caught him and shouted "NO!" . To which he stopped straight away, so I scooped him up and took him outside and told him to "do puddles". We continued to give him a treat everytime he puddled outside. When he did his first wee in the garden we gave him loads of fuss and a treat. thanks caz , thats exactly what we have been doing, think its just going to take time with lucy. ellie my chihuahua is only 13 weeks and she has grasped it stright away, she goes outside and if not able to make it she will go stright to a pad, just wish lucy would do the same, we will get there one day the penny just might drop.

AS I think I have said before on here a lot of this is what has been done prior to you having the puppy. When I had my litters they were started on toilet training as soon as they were weaned which meant that when they went to their new home they were well on the way. But some people don't spend the time doing that with their litters and so they haven't had that initial training which is why it takes a bit longer for them to click what you actually want.

Ha ha Mimi is nearly seven months old & we still have not got the toilet training sorted out completely .
We have tried everything & she now is good & will hold in her poopy to go on walkies but the peeing is a different matter .
I did a lot of reading & research before choosing this breed so I was expecting it tbh & we are just being patient; we keep doing all the things people on here have advised & ideas our trainer has given us & we hope that eventually the lightbulb will switch on . They are a clever type of dog imo so I know she will get the message eventually.
I must admit though I don't think I would have another puppy, I do love my little doglet to distraction & would never give her up now but knowing what I know now & being of sound mind, not seeing things through rose coloured glasses any longer & letting the cutsie puppiness overwhelm me . If we do ever get another we will look for an adult rescue, that is house trained & looking for a forever-home .

Don't know if its a good idea but apart from very rare occasions, Oscar had no accidents after we fitted the cat flap so he could go out as he chose and not have to get our attention. I think he loved bounding in and out of it so much that any excuse to use it was fine by him. He still loves it now.

Poppy is weeing on her puppy pads we do sometimes have the odd accident where she will wee near the front door. What I have been doing is if I see her heading towards the pad I have taken her outside if she does anything I have praised her and given her a treat.

We were advised not to put pee pads down as it tells pups its OK to wee in the house
(sorry if you read this elsewhere..I just wrote much the same on another thread..)
It worked for us (so far...fingers crossed..) although I did have to remove the door mats lol
I take her out every hour or so...I'm lucky I'm home to do it

Hi I want to agree with above posting, personally I think its best to start as you mean to go on, if you let the pup wee on pads then whats the difference between that and the mat?? keep taking him or her out, every hour and saying the *word* the penny does finally drop in the end. Watching them for the signs, circling and sniffing.
Also letting the pup sleep in a crate is a great way to ease the stress you dont wake up to a room full of wee and poos. Let the pup spend short tmes in there during the day too, they have to learn we cant play with them all day lol. SHihs are such lovely playful dogs, it really is worth it in the end.

I never used puppy pads but had Javari housetrained within 5 days. I agree with Lesley as it is very important what your puppy has learned while with mamma. My breeder had him practically housetrained when I got him with 9 weeks and I just made sure I got him out every time we had played or when he woke up from his nap or..... And praised him like mad when he did it outside. Just took me 5 days and then he went to sit next to the door when he needed to get out and if I didn't notice straightaway he gave a warning bark. So he got me trained within 5 days as well

I think Tasha has finally started asking to go out, it's only taken almost 2 years. She has this cute sort of bleating sound. I must say I almost always take them out and make sure they have done something and they both have come to expect me to go out with them.With this cold weather they arn't staying out as much so it is making Tasha think ' I must ask to go out' Yesterday as it was so lovely we were taking them to the beach for a run around and while Hubby was getting the car out Tasha refused to come out of the gate to get in the car and sloped off to the lawn, next thing she was doing a poo so bless her she must have thought to herself I'd better do this in case we are in the car for a while. As it happens we are only about 15 mins away from the beach, but if we go shopping it can take 40 mins to get there

Roxy makes a funny noise when she wants to go out especially at 4.30 am in the morning it seems routine again now. She asked to go out at 12 but i sent her back to bed.

She will either bark or make her funny purring noise.

I have to go out with mine, its freezing!

I know it is extremely cold at the minute but isn't it lovely at six o'clock in the morning and you can see the stars. While with your little stars.

Ahhhh wee-wee training!

Every book I've read has stated that they are indeed tough in this area! I'm still having some problems with Danny, but Bonnie seems to have come along quite well. At 20 weeks old she seems to only go on the mats (an occassional accident but they are getting fewer). It seems like Danny though is starting to learn from Bonnie in this area Thank God! Either that or it's finally getting through his thick head that sitting in the "naughty corner" is NO fun at all LOL!

think I have heard that too and should think it would work - would you want to eat your dinner in the toilet?? - but it is probably like they don't want to soil their bed either xx
