just rescued two shih Tzu
well , i had thought of getting another Shih Tzu puppy when Freya was older, but had also considered a rescue, but now i have 2 ,from very sad circumstances as their Human mummy has terminal cancer, They are lovely, a white and gold boy of 7 months and a black and white girl, of 8 months we have been home just under an hour. boy Jasper is fine, instantly freindly, great with all of the dogs ,poor girly Bella is a bit snappy with our other dogs and is understandably probably very nervous , its all very strange for them , girly had a big snap at Freya but didnt bite her and a snap at my poodle, who just walked away, will need lots of advise on settling in, x

Re: just rescued two shih Tzu
Well done you for rescusing them!!! They sound fab! Nice to be so young too!
Looking forward to seeing photos!
Sounds like Bella wants to be boss of everyone! It will work itself out. Roxy was snappy with Pippa for a week and now she has realised that pippa is actually an ace play mate!

Re: just rescued two shih Tzu
I am sure that they will be fine once they are settled in, looking forward to seeing them and congratulations on the rescue.
Re: just rescued two shih Tzu
Bella's actions are typical of a dog that is very scared, in very strange surroundings and doesn't know what is happening. The best thing you can do is just allow her to come round in her own time. The other dogs will probably give her a wide berth for a while but this type of snapping is not aggression and it shouldn't end in fights but if the other dogs do retaliate then you might need to separate them at the time for a while at least.
Well done for taking them on and how sad for their previous owner.
Just be normal around them - almost to the point of ignoring her because if you over fuss a scared dog then it just reinforces the fear that something is wrong... it just feeds the fear.
I am sure in a day or two Bella will come out of her shell and start to settle down. Just remember it is a massive upheaval for them especially if they have been loved and adored by their owner. xxxxx

Re: just rescued two shih Tzu
Good luck with them it may be hard work in the begining, but once they all get to know each other it will be worth it,
Re: just rescued two shih Tzu
Oh how sad for the previous owner and how good of you to take them in! I think all will settle in a couple of days and just like Lesley said, don't reinforce the fear by fussing over Bella.
Re: just rescued two shih Tzu
well they have been here almost 24 hours and they have had a fab day they were in their element out walking, its all going great with the other dogs ,Bella is being really good and i can tell shes scared , well my purse is empty now after paying 300 out again , been an expensive month with Freya and the vets and the brush and cage etc, but empty purse , full heart , worth it x

Re: just rescued two shih Tzu
Aren't they just the most sweetest ones. They look like butter wouldn't melt. They are gorgeous. I am sure that once they realise they have got a lovely home and someone who will give them the love they seem to have had they will be fine together. Did you have them from the lady or from a rescue centre, just thinking that if they came from a rescue centre Bella may be finding that unsettling being shifted around.Just enjoy them all they are lovely.
Re: just rescued two shih Tzu
They look like they are starting to make themselves feel at home. It must be really strange for them coming to you and not knowing what is going on, but I am sure that in time you will have a lovely mad family of dogs running round creating complete havoc! Just give them a few days and they will be fine I am sure. It is a lovely thing you have done and I am sure that the poor lady must be glad that she has found them a lovely new home. As others have said, just give Bella a while to settle, it is just that she is scared at the minute, but at least she has Jasper to turn to, If she sees him settling down nicely then she will settle as well.

Ahh they are lovely, and what a lovely thing you have done taking these two on, I am sure as the others have said that they just need time to settle in, I foster ex breeding dogs and it can take two or three weeks for my two to completely accept themx

I know I would love to have a little boy for my girls. Pippa didn't disgrace her self did she. Bless ? I think I saw another of your posts so will go and have a look. I found mali & Tasha taking in the scenery where they shouldn't be this afternoon. The little madams.

Pippa seems to think she can go to the toilet upstairs! She is nearly there, probably my fault as I have to keep an eye on her!

The scenery wasn't that amazing today we couldn't see it, because the weather has been horrendous here.
Re: just rescued two shih Tzu
well im back after a weeks respite with my son, all dogs have settled in nicely hubby and older son did a very good job of looking after them all, Bella has settled in fine, Jasper however is still nervouis of being stroked , doesnt like anyone touching his back, im going to take him to the vets to get him checked out when i take Freya for her second vaccination, im wondering if hes had a nasty experience in the past or its just nervous,he likes to be brushed once i can get him still?

Re: just rescued two shih Tzu
Glad you are back after your weeks respite break. It's nice to hear that Jasper and Bella are settling in well. It does sound as if maybe Jasper may have had a bad experience at some time. Taking him to the vets to be checked out would be a good thing, just to make sure there are no problems, but if he is happy to be brushed once you get him to stay still, I doubt there is a problem. Let us know how you get on.

Re: just rescued two shih Tzu
Hi Thanks.Jasper has gone home with my son he lives 2 doors away from me,they have 4 boys and Jasper will have more attention, i can pop around when ever i want to and they can bring him when they go to work, i do love him , i just thought i couldnt quite give him all the fuss he needs, its hard to share my self with my children and my dogs , and with Freya still a baby she needs lots of fuss, Bella, has attached herself to my hubby and doesnt leave his side, which is lovely,Freta went crazy when i came back, i was worried she might have forgotton me, she is so adorable, they all are, hope everyone can understand,Jasper came back after lunch time on his lead and when they left to go home Jasper was happy to go infact he was at the door before them , may be its because of my big standard poodle him being male too, i dont know what to think

Re: just rescued two shih Tzu
It sounds like Jasper is going to get the best of both worlds. It is not as if he is going to be alone, because he can always come and have a play with all of the other dogs when your son and his family are out at work. It's also nice that Bella has attached herself to your husband as well, because she will feel more relaxed if she has someone she knows she can go to and get some special attention.
How is your son getting on with Freya now? Are they becoming good friends yet?
