Teething Tips ?

Post by Sandi on Thu Dec 30, 2010 7:04 pm

Hi Folks

Wee Baxter is teething and he think everything in his path is for biting and chewing on. I have been told frozen carrots or batons of sweet potato (frozen) are good. Have you tried those ?

I read something about baby teething rings frozen but I'm worried his sharp wee teeth will burst it and not sure what the filler is in those things if it were safe or not.

What other tips have you got ?

He's been chewing on the ice in the garden - Must feel good on his wee gums

Try a Puppy Kong, they are good. Or get an old sock, tie it in knots all along its length, spritz it with water, then put it in the freezer to get cold. Then give it to Baxter and he should have fun chewing on it. We used to keep a couple in the freezer ready and rotate them. Hope that helps his poor gums. teddy hug

Sandi you don't say how old Baxter is he looks very young in the photo's. They don't usually start teething until about 4 months of age. Shih Tzu's do have a habit of biting everything in sight when they are a few weeks old, especially ankles when you have your hands full of washing to take to put on the line. It usually stops afer a month or two. Another good toy for teething is a Nylabone that is very hard.
We noticed when Mali our eldest was teething as we found the baby teeth on our carpet but Tasha we never saw anything or had any bother with her so she probably swallowed them.

Hiya

Baxer is 8wks old and still has baby teeth coming in....not many but they are just poking through. He see everything as fair game right now ! lol

I've tried the frozen carrot batons and they worked a treat so have made some sweet potato wedges to freeze today. Not that I have given him that many. He has a number of toys that he enjoys.

The batons will come in useful when he starts losing his baby teeth I'm sure but will also take you all your tips. Thank you folks xox

I''m using the Puppy Kong as well as white washclothes which I wet and stick in the freezer.

Bonnie also like baby carrots to chew on....Danny on the other had don't want nothing to do with that veggie stuff...he's purely a meat and potatoes kind of guy lol!
